Frequently Asked Questions

How does NovelCrypt work?

NovelCrypt encrypts your message using military-grade AES-256 encryption directly in your browser. The encrypted data is embedded in a URL that you can share. When someone opens the link, the message is decrypted in their browser and immediately destroyed, ensuring it can only be read once.

Is my message really secure?

Yes. Your message is encrypted using AES-256 encryption with the Web Crypto API, the same standard used by governments and banks. The encryption happens entirely in your browser, and we never store or have access to your unencrypted data. All encryption keys are generated randomly for each message.

Where is my message stored?

Nowhere! Your encrypted message is not stored on any server. It exists only in the URL you share. This is called "zero-storage" architecture, meaning there is no database to hack or breach. Your message data travels directly from sender to recipient.

What happens after someone reads my message?

The message self-destructs immediately after being viewed once. The recipient will see a confirmation that the message has been destroyed and can never be recovered. This ensures true one-time viewing.

Can I add password protection?

Yes! You can optionally add a password to your message for an additional layer of security. The recipient will need both the link AND the password you set to decrypt and view the message. Make sure to share the password through a different communication channel.

How long do messages last?

You can set expiration times from 1 day to 30 days, or choose "Never" for messages that only expire when viewed. If a message reaches its expiration time before being viewed, it becomes inaccessible and can never be opened.

Do I need to create an account?

No! NovelCrypt requires no registration, no login, and no personal information. Just write your message, encrypt it, and share the link. Complete anonymity and privacy.

Is NovelCrypt free to use?

Yes, NovelCrypt is completely free to use with no hidden fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers. Our mission is to provide secure, private communication for everyone.
